A Few Words About the Play
It all begins on Olympus… The gods are holding a meeting, as Poseidon – Odysseus’ enemy – is away on a journey. It’s the perfect opportunity to allow the much-troubled hero to leave Calypso’s island, where he is stranded. Hermes takes on the task of delivering the message. Calypso becomes angry, but grants him permission to leave. With a raft, Odysseus sets off for his longed-for return..jpg)
Unfortunately for him, Poseidon, returning from his journey, sees him. He becomes furious. He raises a storm and destroys the raft. Shipwrecked, Odysseus reaches the island of the Phaeacians. There, he is met by Princess Nausicaa, who leads him to her parents, who welcome him..jpg)
He reveals who he is and begins recounting his adventures… First with the Cicones on twelve ships, then with the Lotus-Eaters, in Aeolia, and among the Laestrygonians, and then with Circe. He describes his descent into the Underworld, the trial of the Sirens, the passage between Scylla and Charybdis, the journey to the island of the Sun, and his arrival at Calypso’s island. The kings of the Phaeacians, moved, send him back to Ithaca on a magical ship. And so, here is our Odysseus in his beautiful homeland…
