Following its great success and warm audience reception, the theatrical production “20 Steps Forward” by Jorge Bucay returns for a new season of performances at the “Hellenic Cosmos” Cultural Centre.
Opening night: Friday, 13 November
The play “20 Steps Forward” is based on Jorge Bucay’s international bestseller and brings to life the stories and philosophy of the beloved author through a contemporary theatrical adaptation that strikes a balance between humour, emotion and the unexpected twists and turns of human relationships.
Under the direction of Ioanna Georganta, with a script by Pavlos Mitsopoulos, four very different characters meet on stage, clash, reveal themselves and draw us into a story filled with relatable situations, truths and emotions.
“20 Steps Forward” is a contemporary theatrical production for audiences of all ages, featuring vivid characters, unexpected dialogue, humour and emotion. It is a story in which the audience does not simply watch four strangers, but recognises something of their own lives in the characters’ reactions, weaknesses and choices.
About the Story
The last flight to Thessaloniki is delayed. In an airport waiting lounge, four completely different people find themselves stuck waiting together. They do not know one another. They have nothing in common. Or so they think.
A book provides the spark for a conversation that soon goes beyond the boundaries of a chance encounter. As departure announcements follow one another, the four characters gradually grow closer. Bucay’s stories trigger unexpected conversations, revelations, misunderstandings and conflicts. Humour alternates with emotion, certainties are shaken, and behind everyday conversations, each person’s attempts to conceal the truth begin to unravel.
Over the course of ninety minutes, an ordinary waiting lounge becomes a stage for personal confessions, small twists and unexpected encounters.
And while everyone is waiting for a flight to continue their journey, perhaps the most important journey has already begun.
An unexpected encounter. 4 strangers. 20 stories. 20 steps.
Because sometimes, moving forward does not require travelling far.
