The music of Stranger Things will be performed live in Greece for the very first time by its original composers on Saturday, 19 September, at the Theatron of the Hellenic Cosmos Cultural Centre (254 Piraeus Street).
Following the epic conclusion of Netflix’s global phenomenon, Emmy Award-winning composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein (of the band S U R V I V E) bring to the stage the ultimate live celebration of the series’ entire journey. Their tour offers a complete sonic retrospective spanning all five seasons, from the iconic opening theme that first captivated audiences in 2016 to the powerful, evolving soundscapes of the recently released fifth season.
Throughout the history of film and television, certain musical themes have transcended the screen. From Ennio Morricone’s unforgettable whistle in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly to Tangerine Dream’s Love On A Real Train, memorable scores possess the rare ability to define an era and capture an entire aesthetic. Texas musicians Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein created a body of work that has become inseparable from the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana—the supernatural setting at the heart of Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things. As the small town evolved into the unlikely stage for an epic supernatural battle, so too did the duo’s atmospheric soundscapes.
When the Duffer Brothers discovered the band and invited Dixon and Stein to compose the score for Stranger Things, the pair embraced a workload typically handled by an entire team of composers and assistants. As the series evolved from an 1980s-inspired science fiction story into a sprawling supernatural epic, Stein and Dixon rose to the challenge. While the music of the early seasons focused on the timeless sound of vintage analogue synthesizers, it gradually expanded into richer melodies and cinematic atmospheres that perfectly accompanied Eleven, Mike, and their journey through the Upside Down. Music became a central character in Stranger Things, with the duo’s score seamlessly interwoven with iconic period songs such as Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, which returned to the top of the charts following its pivotal use in Season Four. Likewise, Dixon and Stein’s relentless work on the series propelled them from underground synth pioneers to some of the most sought-after composers in contemporary film and television. They received the Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music and have also earned multiple Grammy and ASCAP nominations. For the later seasons of Stranger Things, the duo worked at an extraordinary pace, composing the equivalent of a feature film score every two weeks.
To transform the performance into a fully immersive experience, Dixon and Stein collaborated with acclaimed visual artist MFO (Marcel Weber). The show features a minimalist yet striking lighting design enhanced by sculptural fog effects. Light takes on a tangible presence through dreamlike glows and haunting, explosive movements, blurring the boundaries between concert and cinema and making the atmosphere of Stranger Things a truly immersive, physical experience.
