IMμF 2026: Sweet Sixteen
The Micro μ Festival is growing…
The Foundation of the Hellenic World welcomes the International Micro μ Festival, a celebration dedicated to short films, from September 22 to 26 at The "Hellenic Cosmos" Cultural Centre.
The International Micro μ Festival turns sixteen and returns bigger than ever, without of course changing what made it special. From September 22 to 26, it meets its audience for its autumn rendezvous, continuing to grow, travel and open new paths, while maintaining its independent and handcrafted identity.
This year, the festival spreads even further across the map, bringing its "small" films to Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes, Veria, Rethymno, Ioannina, Copenhagen, Paris and Odense. From Greece to Europe, cinemas simultaneously become meeting points of a shared celebration, which grows every year together with Micro μ itself.
From a celebration dedicated to short films, Micro μ has evolved into a multi-day cinematic gathering with more screenings and more activities. This year, the event becomes longer and offers an even richer programme, bringing creators, viewers, students and trainees together.
Competition – The Big Night
The Competition Section remains the heart of the festival. Audiences in all the cities of Micro μ watch the Greek films in the competition programme and vote live for their favourite.
For yet another year, the audience is not simply a spectator but the final judge, keeping alive the direct, collective and participatory character of Micro μ. At the same time, practical support for filmmakers remains a key priority of the festival, with the awards of the three competition sections exceeding a total value of €8,000 this year, thanks to the festival's organising committee and the companies NIKON, DIGITAL CINEMA SERVICES, RENTPHOTOVIDEO and ABFAB Productions.
Student, International Section & Spanish-language Cinema
The Student Competition continues to give space to young filmmakers and support their first steps, while the International Section returns, with a competitive character this year, featuring films that have stood out at major international festivals, bringing new cinematic voices from around the world to the Greek audience.
This year's programme adds another important chapter: a tribute to Spanish-language cinema, opening a new dialogue with contemporary filmmaking from the Spanish-speaking world.
Educational Programme
At sixteen, Micro μ further expands its relationship with education. For the first time, the festival incorporates an organised Educational Programme into its programme, aimed at students and educators.
Through specially designed cinematic sections, students will have the opportunity to watch short films, discuss and reflect on issues concerning contemporary society and their everyday lives.
The four themes highlighted by the educational screenings of Micro μ are:
Growing Up Under Pressure / Bulling & Cyber bulling / Talking About How We Feel / The Value of Education - Active Citizen.
At sixteen, Micro μ does not forget where it started. It grows without losing its character, expands without moving away from its audience and adds new activities without abandoning its core: short films, their creators and the people sitting across from them in the cinema.
Five days, nine cities, screenings in Greece and Europe, competition and international programmes, student films, educational activities and a new tribute to Spanish-language cinema make up this year's event.
Micro μ turns sixteen. And like every sixteen-year-old, it still has plenty of enthusiasm to grow.
