GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
THE APPROACH: As the title Beyond the Icon suggests, the exhibition approaches the Mexican creator beyond the established myth and the image/icon associated with her. It is not limited to her work as a visual artistic legacy, but delves into her life—a life full of physical trials, emotional conflicts, and constant adventures. Through this multi-layered narrative, the exhibition highlights the deep connection between lived experience and artistic expression, revealing Frida not only as an iconic artist, but as a person who transformed pain, resistance, and her personal story into universal art.
WHAT YOU WILL SEE IN THE EXHIBITION
THE ALTAR, full of symbolism, dedicated to Kahlo whispers stories of another life, on the Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos, a Mexican custom during which the living celebrate their reunion with the souls of those who have passed away).
THE INTERACTIVE PASSAGE, a digital installation that encourages you to explore a dreamlike landscape full of color and movement, featuring the symbols that define Frida Kahlo’s aesthetic.
THE MOMENT when time stopped. A digital artwork with three-dimensional projection that captures the tragic accident that decisively changed Frida Kahlo’s life.
THE DREAM invites you to the place where Frida’s art was born—her own bed. A poetic artistic installation about the cycle of life, birth and death, health and illness.
PULQUERIA LA ROSITA: The traditional Mexican tavern where Frida taught painting, encouraging her students to get to know their country’s environment and traditions and to revive customs. Decorate the wall of La Rosita with your colors!
CADAVRE EXQUIS (VR): An immersive virtual reality experience awaits you to see the world through Frida’s eyes!
FASHION ICON: See up close the velvet skirt, the blouse with striking embroidery, the characteristic bun with flowers and colorful ribbons, as well as Frida’s clothing choices. These are not simply clothes, but powerful statements of cultural pride and love for life. 
IMMERSION HALL/IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE: The spectacular audiovisual narrative presents the events and experiences that shaped the unique life of Frida Kahlo and contributed to her emergence as a global cultural symbol, through projections covering a total surface of 500 sq.m., accompanied by the magical music of Rafael Plana (including photographic archival material, historical documents, and depictions of places that marked her personal and historical journey).
INFORMATION PANELS: Information about the life of Frida Kahlo in the form of a timeline, with reproductions of many works of art and historical photographs, including the paintings The Two Fridas and El Sueño, the most recently highest-priced artwork by a female artist of all time, valued at 56 million dollars.
PHOTO BOOTH: “Fridafy yourself” and create your own portrait, inspired by Frida’s style.
WE ARE ALL FRIDA/WE ARE ALL FRIDA: “Become Frida” with the help of artificial intelligence.
FLOWER WALL: An artistic installation with a photographic depiction of Frida Kahlo, framed by a rich floral composition inspired by her close relationship with nature, Mexican folk tradition, and the symbolic use of flowers in her image and identity. Ideal for a souvenir photo.
