Our own person, Thrasivoulos Giatsios, has passed away.

With great sadness we bid farewell to Thrasivoulos Giatsios, a person with deep love for culture and theatre, with vision, sensitivity and dedication to his work. He left his personal imprint on the Foundation of the Hellenic World and on those who had the fortune to collaborate with him. His absence leaves a great void. His memory, however, as well as his work and ethos, will continue to accompany us.

The Board of Directors of the Foundation of the Hellenic World, Sophia Kounenaki Efraimoglou (Executive Vice President of the Foundation of the Hellenic World and President of the "Hellenic Cosmos" Cultural Centre) and Dimitris Efraimoglou (Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation of the Hellenic World) express their deep sorrow for his loss.

Thrasivoulos Giatsios served as Artistic Director at the "Theatron" of the "Hellenic Cosmos" Cultural Centre since 2008. He was a distinguished figure in the field of the Arts, with many years of experience and significant contribution to culture and theatre.

He was born and raised in Athens and studied Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens. Cinema won him over and thus he found himself in Montreal, Canada, where he worked at the Film Festival. He subsequently collaborated with the Thessaloniki Film Festival, and later assumed the Directorship of the Constantinos and Markos Doxiadis Foundation, a position he held for ten years. He then served as Artistic Director of the Foundation of the Hellenic World, signing a series of significant artistic successes.

The opening of the "Theatron" of the "Hellenic Cosmos" Cultural Centre took place in 2008 with the performance “Biopalistis sti Stegi”. Notable success was achieved by the performance “My Beloved Smyrna”, a work that exceeded all expectations, completing three consecutive years of performances (2014-2017), confirming his unfailing artistic intuition.

His work includes many more successful productions, such as “100 Years Since the Birth of Nino Rota” (2011), “Niki” (2017), “STELIOS KAZANTZIDIS - His Whole Life” (2018), “Shakespeare in Love” (2018), “Oliver Twist” (2019), “And from Smyrna… to Salonika” (2019), “Zorba” (2022), “The Secret of Countess Valeraina” (2023).

A special place is also held by the audience-awarded performance by Athinorama “The Verdict” (2024), as well as this year’s production “Our Great Circus” (2025), a work that was his personal wager.

He also left a distinctive artistic mark on children’s theatre with the performances “Les Misérables” (2024) and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” (2025).

We will always remember him for his humor, his persistence and his kindness.
